Homer Scott Award: The Wyoming High School Football Coaches Association partnered with the Homer & Janet Scott Family Foundation, as they honored five tremendous prep football players this past weekend, for their exemplary display of character, citizenship and strong positive involvement within their community.

These are just some of the qualities that longtime Sheridan, Wyoming resident, and Wyoming High School football proponent Homer “Scotty” Scott will be remembered for.

This award was created to honor and remember the life of a great advocate, fan and supporter of youth athletics in Wyoming.

A Wyoming business icon, “Scotty” was involved with numerous successful ventures including, the development of the Powder Horn Golf Community near Sheridan, plus many more businesses, employing hundreds, while forming positive relationships along the way.

Homer Scott passed away in October last year, but his long history of support for Wyoming youth activities, his love of Wyoming high school football and community will never be forgotten.

This year was the first year for the award and one player from each of the football classifications was selected by an interested committee from nominations submitted by Wyoming High School Football Coaches.

Each young man selected received a $500 scholarship and a $500 donation given to a charity or organization of their choosing, in their name.

This year’s recipients were Wyatt Trembly of Dubois, Spencer Cuthrell of Moorcroft, Keaton Mills of Upton-Sundance, Ty Sheets of Riverton and Caleb Ruff of Cheyenne East.

Sheridan Troopers Baseball: The Sheridan Troopers are back in action tomorrow with a conference double-header at Casper beginning at 1pm.

The 2 teams played a pair of non-conference games at Sheridan back in late April and split the games.

Troopers pitcher Frankie Maestri says the Oilers have had a history of providing a challenge and some problems.

Avon Barney says the Troopers know they are being targeted, once word got out about last week’s sweep of Cheyenne, but they’re not buying into their own hype.

Next week Sheridan will play a number of games in Omaha, Nebraska, while the College World Series is going on.

The next home game for the Troopers isn’t until Tuesday, July 9th.

Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost the rubber game of their 3-game series yesterday afternoon at Minnesota in a slug-fest, 17-9.

Ryan McMahon hit a solo home run to help the cause, but the opposition had 24 hits in the game off of Rocks’ pitching.

Colorado is off today and start a 10-game homestand tomorrow with 3 games vs. Pittsburgh, followed by 4 against the LA Dodgers and 3 vs. Washington.

NBA Finals: Boston nearly squandered an early 4th quarter 21-point lead, but recovered to win Game 3 at Dallas last night 106-99 and now lead the series 3-0.

The Celtics will try for the sweep tomorrow on the road.
