Tongue River HS Preparing For 3A Life: Depending on the sport, practice for the fall sports season starts in about 1 month for now, give or take a few days.
Tongue River has occasionally gone up against 3A opponents in the past, but starting this school year, that’s going to happen a lot more often.
The Eagles and Lady Eagles are now a 3A program in all sports except for football.
TR will still try to get games in against old rivals such as Big Horn, Wright, Moorcroft and Sundance, but there will be more focus on new opponents such as Buffalo, Newcastle, Douglas, Glenrock, Wheatland, Torrington and Burns.
Girls Basketball Coach Carly Sanon says the athletes have been preparing for what’s to come.
The first official competition for Tongue River as a 3A program will be the golf team, which is scheduled to play in its first meet of the season on August 12th and 13th at Powell.
WCA All-Star Volleyball/Basketball Games: Before the new school year starts athletically, there’s one bit of unfinished business for those athletes who recently graduated.
Practice for this coming Saturday’s Wyoming Coaches Association All-Star Volleyball and Basketball games at Casper College start today, as the North and the South will renew their rivalry on the court.
The volleyball game is scheduled to begin at 1pm, the girls basketball game at 3 and the boys basketball game at 5.
A total of 5 athletes and 2 coaches from Sheridan, Tongue River and Kaycee will play for the North teams.
Haylie Patterson of Sheridan will participate in the volleyball game.
Ella Bilyeu and Camryn Wagner of Sheridan, along with Chaney Reish of Tongue River will participate in the girls basketball game.
Kaycee Coaches Chelsea Hepp and Stef Garcia are Assistant Coaches.
Nate Miner of Sheridan will participate in the boys basketball game.
Sheridan Troopers/Jets/Cavalry/Infantry Legion Baseball: The state tournament is almost set and the Sheridan Troopers control their own destiny as far as getting one of the top seeds.
The team needs to win at least one of 2 games tomorrow at home vs. Gillette, to lock up the #1 seed out of the North.
The Roughriders are the defending state champs.
Gillette hosts the state tournament, which begins one week from this coming Friday.
Brackets should be ready early next week.
As for the Sheridan Jets, they are done with conference games, and now have to play the waiting game to see if they make it in.
The top 4 teams from the North and South qualify, and the Jets are sitting on that line with Powell.
Meanwhile The ‘B’ and ‘C’ state tournaments both start this coming Friday.
The Cavalry will be in Riverton and are scheduled to take on Evanston at 10am in the first round.
The Infantry will be in Laramie and are scheduled to take on Rock Springs at 10am in the first round.
