Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball Team is back in action this weekend at a tournament in Cheyenne, against a lot of out of state competition, including a 2-time former Legion National Championship Team.
Sheridan first plays the Colorado Lightning out of Parker at 1:30pm.
Then at 4pm, the Troopers take on Idaho Falls, who won the Legion World Series in 2019 and 2021, also played in the LWS in 2022, and was 1 win away from playing in it last year.
Head Coach Austin Cowen says as long as the players stick to the plan that’s been working, that’s all he can ask for.
Sheridan beat Idaho Falls in May of last year in Billings.
Pitcher Will Greer says the team is looking forward to going up against what may be tougher competition, compared to this past weekend.
The Troopers also have games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The opponent and start time for Sunday’s games are dependent on the results from the previous 3 days.
Sheridan HS Grad Texas Tanner Named MWC Male Track and Field Athlete Of The Year: A Sheridan High School grad has received top honors from Mountain West Conference Coaches.
Texas Tanner of Air Force, who is a 2022 Sheridan HS grad, has been named the 2026 Male Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track & Field Student-Athlete of the Year.
This is the second year in a row that he has earned the honor.
According to a media release, Tanner turned in a historic final collegiate outdoor season, recording the No. 2 marks in NCAA history in the discus at 228’2”, as well as the hammer throw at 258’9”, with his hammer mark serving as the best all-time throw by an American-born collegiate and best throw by any collegiate athlete since 1995.
At the NCAA Outdoor Championship last month, Tanner earned a pair of first-team All-American honors, finishing as the national runner-up in the hammer throw and earning a fourth-place finish in the discus, to become the most decorated All-American in Air Force history.
The hammer and discus finishes at the national meet were the highest by a Mountain West athlete in those events since 2003 and 2011, respectively.
The senior led the country in both events during the regular season and earned the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Athlete of the Week award on April 13th after breaking a 26-year old Mountain West Conference record in the discus, marking the first time an Air Force track and field athlete had earned a national weekly honor in program history.
Tanner finishes his career with his name etched in the Mountain West Conference record books as he holds the championship meet records in the discus and hammer, the top-three marks in league history in the discus and the top-seven throws in the hammer in the Conference all-time.
He is also the 2022 Wyoming Gatorade Male Track and Field Athlete of the Year.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies won last night at home vs. Miami 6-3.
Mickey Moniak and Kyle Karros each hit solo home runs and Hunter Goodman provided a 2-run shot of his own.
The Rocks will try to salvage a 4-game series split against the Marlins today, starting at 1:10pm.
