Sheridan College Rodeo: College cowboys and cowgirls who finish in the top 3 in the standings of their respective event at the end of the season, qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo, but there’s another way in as well.
If the team finishes in the top 2 in the team standings, then that team can take up to either 6 cowboys or 4 cowgirls, depending on the gender, that did not finish in the top 3 of their event, but did manage to place in the top 30% in their region.
That latter qualification is where Sheridan College saddle bronc rider Lonnie Dunn fits in, as he placed 4th in the individual standings.
He says he enjoyed this college season, both at practice and in the arena.
Dunn qualified for the CNFR last year while attending Missouri State University West Plains.
The week-long CNFR begins this Sunday in Casper.
Wyoming High School Rodeo: A recent Buffalo High School grad is putting the Cowgirl into Wyoming Cowgirls.
Karly Davis qualified for next month’s High School National Finals Rodeo in barrel racing.
This will be her first and only time at the High School NFR, and afterwards she will join the Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team.
She says she’s been riding since kindergarten and rides for the thrill of competition.
The week-long High School NFR runs from July 19th through the 25th in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies saved the drama for the later innings to win at home last night against the Chicago Cubs 3-2.
The Rocks would take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 8th, thanks to TJ Rumfield’s 2-run home run.
Chicago would tie the game with a solo home run in the top of the 9th, but then Sterlin Thompson would provide a walk-off single in the bottom of the 9th for the win.
Colorado will try for the 3-game series sweep today.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:10pm.
NBA Finals: It was a comeback of historic proportions last night, as New York rallied from a 29-point deficit early in the 3rd quarter, and scored a tip-in with 1.2 seconds to go, to win Game 4 at home vs. San Antonio 107-106.
It’s the biggest comeback in NBA Finals history.
The old record was 24, which was accomplished in 2008 by Boston against the LA Lakers.
The Spurs set their own NBA Finals record with 14 3’s in the first half, but only scored 30 points total in the second half and had a 20 point lead with 9 ½ minutes to go, before their shooting went cold.
The Knicks haven’t won it all since 1973 and currently lead this series 3 games to 1.
Game 5 is scheduled for Saturday at San Antonio.
