A recent Sheridan High School grad is not only motivated to get himself back on the wrestling mat, he also wants to try to surpass his older brothers, who have participated on a highly successful collegiate team.

River Osborne has signed his notice of intent to join the wrestling team at Wartburg College in Iowa.

His older brothers (Reece and Rudy), who graduated from Sheridan HS (2020 and 2021), also competed on the same team.

Osborne says he has more than enough motivation to get back on the mat, but also owes a debt of gratitude to the College, who still believed in him after a bad break came his way.

“Wartburg was the only college that reached out to me, because of my brothers going there and I blew my knee out in football of my senior year, so I didn’t get to wrestle my senior year, so that kind of took a lot of recruiting away from me and I just thought, if Wartburg still has faith in me after missing my senior year of wrestling, I got to give it a shot. I think Wartburg knows what I’m capable of and my brothers are hard workers and I am too, so I’m going to get it rolling for them.”

Osborne adds he plans to major in biology.

Wartburg College is an NCAA Division III school located in Waverly, Iowa, which is about 20-25 miles north of Cedar Falls.

The Knights wrestling program has won 17 National Championships, including the last 2.
