Sheridan Troopers/Jets Legion Baseball: It’s state tournament time for Wyoming Legion Baseball, and in the first round, it will be Sheridan vs. Cheyenne times two.
The Troopers are the top seed out of the north and will play the Cheyenne Hawks at 4pm.
Head Coach Austin Cowen says the boys still remember last year when they won their first 3 games of the tournament, then lost in the championship game.
Before that game, the Sheridan Jets will take on Cheyenne Post 6 at 1pm.
Head Coach Brian Fritz says there have been some opponents this season that have played both the Jets and the Troopers and those opponents threw their better pitchers at them, instead of at the bigger boys.
He adds the team has benefitted from going up against those tougher pitchers which could have the players ready to go up against the Sixers, but there are a few other things that the Jets need to improve on.
The state tournament is being played in Gillette.
The winner qualifies for the AA Northwest Regional Tournament in Medford, Oregon.
The runner-up qualifies for the A-League Northwest Regional Tournament, which will be played in Casper.
