Sheridan College Rodeo: The College National Finals Rodeo continued with a slack round yesterday and one Sheridan College cowgirl left her mark.

Competing in Round 2 of the breakaway roping, Sierra Hilgenkamp secured her lasso in 1.9 seconds to take the lead in the round.

She had a no time in Round 1 on Sunday, which means the national championship may be out of reach, but she can still win a round or 2 for individual glory.

Half of the field went yesterday, and the other half will go this morning.

On the men’s side, Tyon Arneson had his first run in the team roping with Kash Arneson from the University of Wyoming.

The 2 ended up with a no time, and will have their second run in today’s slack round.

Round 2 is underway in the saddle bronc riding.

Christopher Nelson scored 73.5 points on his ride.

That gives a 2-round score of 155.25, which puts him in 3rd place overall as of yesterday, but the other half of the field will have their second run this morning.

Tatien Eaton ended up with a no score.

Jake Schlattman Lonnie Dunn and Brody Hale will have their second rides today in the slack round, which starts at 7am.

Once the slack round is complete, every competitor will have completed 2 runs in their respective event.

Round 3 starts this evening at 7 o’clock.

Hilgenkamp is the only one scheduled for Sheridan College.

The others will have their 3rd turn either tomorrow or Thursday.

Steel Brothers Football Camp In Sheridan: A pair of Sheridan High School Bronc brothers gave back to their hometown, by teaching some youngsters some of the techniques of the game.

This past Sunday (June 14th) was the Steel Brothers Football Camp hosted Dane and Brock Steel, who both play at Montana State University.

Dane and some of his Bobcat teammates have worked a few camps and says what has stood out the best about the Sheridan camp is the players’ willingness to learn.

MSU is the defending Football Championship Subdivision National Champs.

The Bobcats are scheduled to begin their season on August 29th at Utah Tech.

The home opener is on September 5th vs. Butler.

Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost in walkoff fashion last night, on the road against the Chicago Cubs 5-4.

Cole Carrigg hit a 3-run blast for the cause, but the bullpen could not hold on, allowing 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th, including a walk-off bases loaded walk to end the game.

The Rocks and Cubs are scheduled to play Game 2 of their 3 game series today, beginning at 6:05pm.
