Sheridan Troopers/Jets Legion Baseball: Among the unwritten rules in baseball include don’t pad your stats in a blowout, don’t bunt to break up a no-hitter, and don’t talk about a possible no-hitter during a game.
This past Thursday, the players for the Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball team kept their mouths shut, and Will Greer tossed a no-no against a team from Spokane, Washington, striking out 9 and walked 1.
Greer says he wasn’t paying attention and never bothered to look at the scoreboard until the game was over.
The Troopers are preparing to play in a weekend tournament beginning tomorrow in Cheyenne.
Meanwhile, the Sheridan Jets swept a home conference double-header yesterday vs. Riverton.
Scores were 5-4 and 13-9.
The team is next scheduled to play in a separate weekend tournament, beginning tomorrow at Gillette.
Sheridan County HS Sports: Now that it’s July 1st, the new 2-year reclassification cycle for Wyoming High School sports is now in effect.
There’s a little bit of change as far as Sheridan High School is concerned, but it’s not football related.
Now there are 16 teams in Class 4A, as Cody moves back up.
For volleyball, and basketball 4A will go back into quadrants.
Sheridan will be in the northeast along with both Gillette teams and Kelly Walsh, meaning the Broncs and Lady Broncs have to play home and away contests vs. all 3 of those teams.
As for the southeast quadrant, which is all 3 Cheyenne schools and Laramie, Sheridan only has to play them once during the season, with 2 at home and the other 2 on the road.
Tongue River is now a 3A school in all sports except for football.
The top 16 enrolled schools make up 4A, and the next 16 make up 3A.
With an increase in enrollment for the next 2 school years, TR moved up to #32 and crossed the line from 2A to 3A.
Soon to be senior Laken Walker says there is some general nervousness regarding the move up, but a lot are interested in seeing how they’ll fare in new waters.
The Eagles and Lady Eagles have been placed in the 3A Northeast Quadrant with Buffalo, Newcastle and Douglas.
The 3A Southeast comprises Glenrock, Wheatland, Torrington and Burns.
As for Big Horn, the Rams and Lady Rams remain in the 2A Northeast with Wright, Moorcroft and Sundance.
Lusk, Lingle-Ft. Laramie and Southeast move up from 1A to 2A and will join Pine Bluffs in the 2A Southeast.
Mountain West Conference Sports: The Mountain West Conference now has a new look to it.
Colorado State, Utah State, Fresno State, Boise State and San Diego State are officially in the PAC-12 conference.
Filling the void is North Dakota State and Northern Illinois in football only.
The University of Texas El-Paso is in, for all sports.
The University of Cal-Davis is in for everything except football, and Hawaii, who has been a football only member in the past, is now in the conference for just about every other sport.
This means the conference will have 10 teams in football and 10 in the other sports as well, although not necessarily the same 10 teams.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost last night at home vs. Miami 14-3.
Mickey Moniak hit a solo home run to tie the game at 1, but things went downhill after that.
The Rocks and Marlins are scheduled to play game 3 of their 4-games series today.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:40pm.
