Four Sheridan County Coaches Named Coach Of The Year For Spring 2026: It’s the athletes that win the games, events, and championships, but the coaches have something to do with it.
Taylor Kelting (4A Boys Track and Field) of Sheridan, and Kirk McLaughlin (2A Boys and Girls Track and Field) of Big Horn, have been named Coaches of the Year for the Spring 2026 sports season, by the Wyoming Coaches Association.
The Broncs 3-peated as 4A State Champs and made it 5 of the last 6.
The Rams 4-peated as 2A State Champs, while the Lady Rams won their first 2A State Title since 2016.
Cody Ball of Big Horn was named one of 2 Assistant Coaches of the Year in Track and Field and Alli Nikont of BH was named Junior High/Middle School Coach of the Year in T&F.
Sheridan College Rodeo: Round 3 of the College National Finals Rodeo is now halfway complete.
Three Sheridan College cowboys had their 3rd ride in the saddle bronc riding.
Jake Schlattmann had a score of 75 ½ points on his ride.
He’s 2 for 3, so the chances of him being invited back for Saturday’s championship short-go are not good.
Brody Hale had a 73 point ride last night, and that was his only qualified ride of the week.
Also in the Saddle Bronc Riding, Taiten Eaton took a no score and he would go 0 for 3 in the competition.
The last 3 for Sheridan College are scheduled to compete tonight.
Those 3 are Lonnie Dunn and Christopher Nelson who are both 2 for 2 so far in the saddle bronc riding, and Tyon Arneson will have his last run in the team roping.
Competition is scheduled to begin at 7pm.
After today, those Sheridan College competitors who are still in contention for a national championship, will have to wait it out tomorrow, to see if they made it.
Sheridan Wrestling Club Camp: Some youngsters are refining their technique courtesy of a former Sheridan Bronc and a Junior College National Championship Coach.
The Sheridan Wrestling Club Camp has been going on this week at Sheridan High School.
On hand is Bronc grad Kelten Crow, who now wrestles at Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs.
He says the main goal of the camp is to give the youngsters a new approach to what they already know and keep it simple.
Along with Crow is Western Wyo Coach Art Castillo, who coached the Mustangs to the Junior College National Championship in 2023 and 2024.
He says for the young wrestlers, the camp is a refresher course of sorts, but he’s trying to add in a new twist to things and make the lessons more enjoyable.
This year Western Wyo finished as JUCO National Runners-Up.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost the rubber game of their 3-games at the Chicago Cubs last night 8-6.
Sterlin Thompson hit 2 solo home runs, while Hunter Goodman provided a 2-run blast, and Kyle Karros went yard himself, but the comeback would come up short.
The Rocks are off today and are scheduled to start a 6-game homestand tomorrow with the first of a 3-game series vs. Pittsburgh, followed by 3 games vs. Boston.
