Sheridan College Rodeo: The Sheridan College Men’s Rodeo team continues to strengthen its case for next year’s College National Finals Rodeo.
This past weekend at Lamar Community College in Colorado, the team placed 4th overall, thanks to having 3 riders in the top 5 of saddle bronc riding.
Christopher Nelson finished 2nd and Jake Schlattmann placed 3rd, while Taiten Eaton was 5th.
In the Central Rocky Mountain Region Standings, Nelson has passed Schlattmann for the #1 spot, but as long as you’re in the top 3 at the end of next April, you’re in the CNFR.
Also, Reece Reder was tied for 4th and 5th on the weekend in Bareback Riding.
He’s currently 5th in the region and within striking distance.
This weekend, the rodeo circuit will be at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne.
It marks the end of the fall portion of the schedule and the halfway point of the season.
Competition will resume in March and April.
The standings from the fall season will carry over the winter break.
University of Wyoming Football: It’s back to the drawing board for the Wyoming Cowboys as the team looks to get back on track this weekend at home vs. San Jose State.
The Spartans are 2-3 on the season with a 1-0 record in the Mountain West Conference, winning last week against New Mexico.
Stat-wise SJSU has the best pass offense in the conference averaging about 304 yards per game, but have the 2nd worst rushing attack, and have the 2nd worst defense giving up roughly 421 yards per game.
On the topic of offense, San Jose State is led by a 1-2 combination of quarterback Walker Eget and receiver Danny Scudero.
Eget leads the conference in passing yards and in completions, while Scudero is tops in receptions per game and receiving yards, and is 2nd in touchdown receptions.
UW Head Coach Jay Sawvel says getting defensive pressure on Eget is the key.
Kickoff from Laramie is scheduled for 5pm.
Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche are 1-0 on the season, winning last night at LA 4-1.
The Avs are scheduled to play their home opener tomorrow against the Utah Mammoth.
Major League Baseball Playoffs: The New York Yankees stayed alive in their American League best of 5 division series, by beating Toronto last night 9-6, but trail in the series 2-1.
Seattle would take a 2-1 lead in their series by winning yesterday at Detroit 8-4.
Game 4 of both of those series will be played today.
Meanwhile, the National League is in Game 3.
The LA Dodgers and Milwaukee are attempting to sweep Philadelphia and the Chicago Cubs respectively.
