Sheridan HS Boys and Girls Soccer: It’s State Tournament time for soccer in Gillette.
After coming up short in last year’s state championship game, the Sheridan boys will try again to win only their second state title in school history.
The lone win was in 2011.
In all likelihood, the Broncs will have to go through 3 of the best teams from the west, starting with Riverton.
Under the current setup of High School Soccer in Wyoming, 4A teams from the East and West can’t play each other during the regular season, thus the post season is the only time that can happen.
Sheridan Head Coach Wade Kinsey says that can make it difficult to scout, since no team has a common opponent on the other side of the state, but he and the team have been studying some video and the players remember what teams they played last year and how they work.
The Broncs and Wolverines kickoff their game at 11am at Thunder Basin High School.
As for the Sheridan girls, they’re in a similar if not a slightly tougher situation compared to the boys.
They’ve also only won 1 state championship, and that was back in 1993.
The Lady Broncs will tangle with Jackson, who are the defending 4A Girls State Champs and like the boys, all they have to go on is video and whatever else they’ve heard.
Head Coach Josh Dube says the girls know these are the cards that were dealt to them, and all they can do is go play the game in the way they know how to.
Sheridan and Jackson play in the first game of the tournament today at 9am at Campbell County High School.
Buffalo HS Boys and Girls Soccer: Buffalo also plays this morning in the 3A State Tournament.
The Lady Bison will take on Mountain View at 9am.
The girls have won the state title twice in school history, with the last one in 2014.
The Bison are the defending 3A Boys State Champs, and will go up against Powell at 11am.
Sheridan/Johnson County HS Track and Field: The Wyoming High School State Track and Field Meet also starts today in Casper.
The schedule for the first day involves mostly field events beginning at 2pm, and there will be a few races, such as the 3200 meter run, the 1600 sprint medley relay, as well as the preliminaries of the 100 and 110 meter hurdles races.
Competition tomorrow and Saturday starts at 9am.
The Sheridan boys will try to 3-peat as 4A State Champs and make it 5 of the last 6, while the Big Horn boys aim to 4-peat in the 2A ranks.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost the rubber game of their 3-games series yesterday at home vs. Texas 5-4.
