Sheridan College Rodeo: The new season for the Sheridan College Rodeo team is off to a promising start.
The men’s team placed 2nd and the women 5th at this past weekend’s event in Chadron, Nebraska.
Sheridan placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the saddle bronc riding, thanks to strong rides by Chris Nelson, Jake Schlattmann, Lonnie Dunn and Tatien Eaton respectively.
Reece Reder finished 2nd in the bareback riding.
On the women’s side Faith Heim was 6th in the barrel racing.
Sheridan College has this weekend off from competition.
The next rodeo is Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 19th, 20th and 21st at Central Wyoming College in Riverton.
Sheridan HS Tennis: The Sheridan boys won dual matches this past weekend on the road against Torrington, Cheyenne East and Cheyenne Central.
The girls went 2-1 against the same opponents, with the 1 loss coming against Central.
The Broncs and Lady Broncs will conclude the regular season this coming Saturday, at both Thunder Basin and Campbell County.
The boys will play one team, while the girls play the other, then they will switch opponents.
University of Wyoming Football: The Wyoming Cowboys are 2-0 on the season after winning their home opener this past weekend vs. Northern Iowa 31-7.
The Pokes outgained the opposition 379-170, thanks to a balanced attack.
The defense held the Panthers to 5 of 16 on 3rd down conversions.
An area of concern could be penalties, as the Brown and Gold were flagged 13 times for 115 yards.
Head Coach Jay Sawvel says he was pleased that the players stayed focused throughout the game.
The good news is that quarterback Kaden Anderson is expected to be back at practice this week.
The sophomore took a hit in the 3rd quarter and was taken to the hospital with an upper body injury.
Coach Sawvel says he anticipates playing him this coming Saturday at home vs. Utah.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost the first game of a 3-game series last night at the LA Dodgers 3-1.
The one was from a sacrifice fly in the second inning, and the Rocks almost ended up on the wrong end of a no-hitter, but Ryan Ritter broke it up in the 9th inning, with the only hit of the game.
Colorado and the Dodgers will play each other again today starting at 8:10pm.
