Sheridan HS Softball Starts Practice: Practice for the Wyoming High School Spring Sports Season started yesterday and for Sheridan, it meant the start of a new varsity sport.

The Lady Broncs took to the field for their first official practice of the school’s inaugural season in softball.

Sheridan is one of 3 new teams in the state, bringing the total to 16, and this year will be the 5th year of the varsity sport in Wyoming.

Sheridan Head Coach Kristen Czaban says through the off-season workouts and even before then, she has some idea as to what this year’s team is going to be like.

Although the players will wear Sheridan Lady Bronc uniforms, not all of them are from Sheridan High School.

The team has a co-op agreement with other schools such as Big Horn, Tongue River and even Buffalo.

Taylin Hatch is a senior from Buffalo.

She says even though her school doesn’t offer the sport, she’s grateful that there’s a team about half an hour drive away that’s giving her an opportunity to play.

The first game of the season is scheduled for Friday, March 21st in Cheyenne.

The home opener is scheduled for Saturday, March 29th vs. Thunder Basin.

All home games will be played at the Sheridan College softball fields.

Tongue River HS Girls Basketball: The Tongue River girls went 25-1 this season on their way to winning their 2nd straight 2A State Championship.

If there was one thing the Lady Eagles were lacking, it was experience in close games, which they played very few.

Wyoming Indian gave them a challenge back in December in Ethete, and although TR beat them again in the championship game by 14, the score stayed close until the final 5 minutes.

Head Coach Amanda Cummins says the Tongue River players knew that Coach Aleta Moss and the Lady Chiefs are historically good, and that was the type of opponent they wanted to go up against.

Junior Chaney Reish explains what adjustments the Lady Eagles made at halftime.

2A and 1A All-State and All-Conference selections have been announced for this season.

A total of 14 players from Tongue River, Big Horn and Arvada-Clearmont were named all-conference.

Four players, all girls, were named All-State.

Reish is now a 3-time all-state selection.

Joining her on the list are Paxton Aksamit and Afton Cummins who are now 2-timers.

The other Sheridan County High School 2A All-State selection is Emme Mullinax from BH.

The ladies were down by 8 late in the 2nd quarter.

Allyson Fertig had a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds.

Malene Pedersen put in 18, while Emily Mellema and Tess Barnes put in 15 points each.
