A Tongue River High School football senior will continue to be an Eagle at the collegiate level.
Colter Hanft has signed his National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play football for the Chadron State College Eagle Football Team.
This past season offensively, he ran for 142 yards and scored 3 touchdowns.
He also caught 32 passes for 405 yards and made his way to the end zone 5 times.
Defensively, Hanft led Class 2A in both defensive points with 143, and in tackles with 75.
He had 8 1/2 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks, forced and recovered 1 fumble, broke up 2 passes, had 1 interception and scored one defensive touchdown.
The senior says he has already been to Chadron State a few times for football camps, so he’s familiar with the area and he also tries to explain what he thinks the football coaches saw in him.
“I always kind of liked it there. It’s a small town, it feels like home. The coaches are super good dudes, I like them all. It just felt like home and felt like the right choice. I’m hoping they saw I’m a big physical athlete and am a lot faster than I look and I have good hands and I’m just willing to kind of get dirty in there and do whatever it takes to win.”
Hanft adds he also had offers from Montana Tech and Dickinson State out of North Dakota.
He is considering majoring in ag business.
