Sheridan Jets Legion Baseball: The clock may have struck midnight for one Sheridan Legion Baseball team, but they have been invited to another party.

The Sheridan Jets lost 8-1 against Cheyenne Post 6 yesterday, in the Wyoming Legion Baseball Division One State Championship Game, played at Gillette.

Last Sunday, the team had sweat it out, and hope that Cody would lose twice against Gillette on the last day of the regular season, just so they could get into the state tournament, as the bottom seed out of the North.

Drake Martinson is a soon to be senior at Big Horn High School.

He says once that obstacle was cleared, the Jets didn’t celebrate, they went to work.

Head Coach Brian Fritz says the players were not just happy to be there, they wanted to go out and see which teams they could beat, because it was a confidence booster for next year.

As a result of their state runner-up finish, the Jets qualified for the Northwest Class A Regional Tournament, which will take place this year in Casper.

Competition in the 8-team tournament starts one week from tomorrow.

Teams are put into 1 of 2 groups of 4, and they play all 3 of the other teams in their pool.

The top 2 teams in each pool advance to a 4-team single elimination bracket for the championship.

The Jets are pooled with A-League State Champs from Utah, Idaho, and the runner-up out of Oregon.

Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost the first game of a 2-game series last night at San Diego 8-7.

Willi Castro hit a solo home run and Mickey Moniak provided a 2-run shot of his own, but the Padres got the last laugh with a walk-off sacrifice fly to win it.

The 2 teams are scheduled to play each other again today, starting at 2:10pm.
