Sheridan Troopers/Jets Legion Baseball: One team had to win, one team had to lose, and the team that won, was the team that had nothing to lose.

The Sheridan Jets broke up a 2-2 deadlock yesterday, by scoring 7 runs in the top of 7th inning, to eliminate the Sheridan Troopers from the state tournament 9-2, and advance to the Division One State Championship Game.

The Head Coaches of both teams say the change of format for the season opened the door to the possibility that the Troopers and Jets could play each other in the post season.

Jets Head Coach Brian Fritz says both teams would have preferred to meet for the championship, instead of in an elimination game.

As for the Troopers, the team finishes the 2026 season with a record of 48-17.

There’s an old sports cliche that says it’s not always the best team you have to look out for, rather it’s the hottest.

Coach Austin Cowen says the Trooper players knew it going into the game, and couldn’t cool them off enough, but there’s no ill-will between either team.

As for the Jets, they will play in the state championship game today in Gillette, against Cheyenne Post 6, beginning at 12-noon.

Since it’s double-elimination and Sheridan already has 1 loss, the team has to beat the Sixers twice, whereas the opposition only needs to win once.

Should a second game be needed, we will have a LIVE radio broadcast of that game, on AM 1410 KWYO and 106.9 FM.

The winner qualifies for the AA Northwest Regional Tournament, which starts one week from tomorrow in Medford, Oregon.

The last time the Jets won a state championship was in 2019 in the B-League.

High School Rodeo: The High School National Finals Rodeo concluded this past Saturday in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Of those cowboys and cowgirls from Sheridan and Johnson Counties, Bleu Butler of Big Horn was the only one to make it to the championship short-go, as she was in the top 20 after 2 runs in goat tying.

She ended up placing 17th.

Hadley Thompson out of Yoder won the event for the second year in a row.

For the first time since 1991, royalty hails from Wyoming, as Taylor Hernandez-Thoman of Green River, was crowned as the 2026 National High School Rodeo Queen.

Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies start a 2-game series today at San Diego.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:40pm.

The Rocks are scheduled to return home on Friday for 6 games, beginning with 3 vs. Kansas City, followed by 3 vs. Tampa Bay.
