Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball/WY AA State Championship Tournament: Going into Day 4 of the Wyoming Legion Baseball AA State Tournament in Cheyenne yesterday, the Sheridan Troopers were in a position where the team could afford to lose 1 game, and still play for the state championship.
That’s the advantage of a modified double-elimination bracket, and if there was one game that Sheridan could afford to lose, it was last night against Casper, which they did 11-5.
Head Coach Austin Cowen says last night was one of those games, where the Troopers wanted to save their best pitching for today’s championship game and give the relievers some time on the mound.
The opposition was facing elimination and had more to play for, but there were lessons to be learned.
In the other game yesterday, Gillette eliminated Cheyenne Post 6 1-nothing.
With 3 teams remaining today, it will be Gillette vs. Casper in an elimination game starting at 11am.
Sheridan will play the winner of that game at 2pm, in a one game winner take all state championship game.
Coach Cowen says it doesn’t matter which team is the opponent, but the Troopers hope that the Roughriders and Oilers keep the score against each other close, and drain each other’s pitching reserves.
Sheridan last won the state championship in 1997, and last played in the state championship game in 2016.
We will have a live radio broadcast of the game on AM 1410 KWYO and 106.9 FM.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies were off yesterday, and today the team starts a 6-game homestand with 3-games vs. Pittsburgh, followed by 3-games vs. Toronto.
First pitch today is scheduled for 6:10pm.
Tomorrow and Sunday’s games start at 1:10pm.
The Rocks got involved in another trade with the New York Yankees just ahead of the trade deadline.
Colorado gave up right handed relief pitcher James Bird in exchange for minor league second baseman Roc Riggio and minor league left handed pitcher Ben Shields.
Both players have been sent to Colorado’s AA team in Hartford, Connecticut.
