Sheridan Jets Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Jets Legion Baseball team were the surprise team at this year’s state tournament.

Several opponents underestimated them and paid the price, but now that things are shifting to the Northwest Class A Regional Tournament, that element of surprise is gone, and there will be 7 other teams in Casper that will take them seriously.

Blake Ligocki says that’s not a big concern and the competition will help them gain experience for next year.

The Jets play tomorrow, Friday and Saturday at 4pm each day.

If they finish in the top 2 of their pool, then they advance to a 4-team single elimination bracket for the championship.

The semi-final game would be played on Sunday and the championship game on Monday.

University of Wyoming Football: Practice starts today for the University of Wyoming Football team.

This year the Pokes will hold all of their outdoor practices at War Memorial Stadium, instead of at the North 40 Practice Field.

The reason is simple.

The Stadium is turf, the practice field is grass, and the Brown and Gold do not play any games on a grass field this season.

UW will hold 25 practices between now and the season opener on September 5th at Colorado State, which is now a non-conference game, because the Rams have left the Mountain West Conference and are now a part of the Big 12.

The home opener is on September 12th vs. Northern Colorado.

The conference opener is on September 26th at home vs. Hawaii.

Wyoming also has games against conference newcomers North Dakota State and UTEP on the road, and will host Northern Illinois.

The only conference opponent not on this year’s schedule is Nevada.

Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost the second game of their 3-game series last night at home vs. Tampa Bay 9-7 in 11 innings.

Mikey Moniak hit a 3-run home run and Willi Castro provided a 2-run shot of his own, but the team could not hold on to the lead.

The Rocks will try to avoid the sweep today, starting at 1:10pm.
