Sheridan HS Volleyball: For the first time since 2016, the Sheridan High School Lady Bronc Volleyball team is going to the state tournament.
This past Saturday, the Lady Broncs survived a do or die game vs. Cheyenne Central to get the monkey off of their back.
Senior Hannah Hodnett says having that game go 5 sets was a bit dramatic, but the girls were not nervous, kept it together, and it showed.
Senior Kailee Holst says in between the 4th and 5th set, Coach Dani Torpee gave the Lady Broncs the motivation that they needed.
Sheridan will play Green River in the first round of the 4A State Tournament in Casper this coming Thursday at 4:30pm.
Big Horn and Tongue River HS Volleyball: Big Horn and Tongue River are in the 2A State Tournament which will also take place in the Ford Wyoming Center.
TR will take on Shoshoni on Thursday starting at 2:30pm, while BH will play the last game of the day at 6pm vs. Big Piney.
New Sheridan College Rodeo Coach: Sheridan College has hired a Hall of Famer as its new rodeo coach.
Bobby Harris started as the teams’ assistant coach this past September and is now taking over.
He is an 18-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier as a team-roping heeler and was the rookie of the year in 1978.
Harris won the World Championship title in 1991, and the World Championship Average Title in 1987, 1990, and 2002, plus he qualified for the National Finals Steer Roping eight times.
He was inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in 2022.
The 2024-25 College Rodeo Season is now in its winter break and the season will resume March 14th through the 16th at Gillette.
University Of Wyoming Basketball: The Wyoming Cowboys scored up close and often last night, winning at home vs. Concordia University St. Paul 108-85.
The Pokes scored 78 points in the paint, shot 53% for the game and got 68 points from the bench.
A total of 6 Cowboys scored in double-figuers.
Obi Agbim led the way with 25 points.
Jordan Nesbitt had a double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds.
Scottie Ebube put in 19 points, Cole Henry a dozen, Kobe Newton with 11 of his own and Touko Tainamo scored 10.
UW next plays this coming Sunday at home vs. Tennessee State.
As for the Wyoming Cowgirls, they came up a little bit short as they lost their season opener at home last night vs. Colorado 56-50.
UW was up 24-18 at halftime, but the Lady Buffs would win the 3rd quarter 20-10 to seize control.
The 2 differences in the game was that CU won the bench battle 15-2 and found more ways to get to the free throw line as they were 13 of 24 from the charity stripe, compared to 9 of 15 for Wyoming.
The Brown and Gold were led by Allyson Fertig with 18 points, while Tess Barnes put in 13.
The Cowgirls next play this coming Saturday at BYU.
UW’s Freshman Quarterback Wins Mountain West Conference Honors: Wyoming’s new quarterback has received some conference recognition.
Kaden Anderson was named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Week.
In the win at New Mexico, he was 20 of 29 passing for 342 yards.
Anderson ended up throwing for 3 touchdowns and ran one in himself, to help the Pokes win 49-45.
This week is an off week from competition.
UW next plays one week from this coming Friday…the Border War…at Colorado State.
Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets won last night at home vs. Toronto 121-119.
The Nuggets next play tomorrow at home vs. Oklahoma City.
