Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball Team ended up on the wrong end of a 19-4 score yesterday, courtesy of Cheyenne Post 6, at the Wyoming AA State Tournament in Casper.
Tyler Riesen provided 2 RBI’s for the cause, while Cael Hamrick and Blaine Phillips provided 1 each, but that wasn’t anywhere close to being enough.
Head Coach Austin Cowen says yesterday was not their day.
The Troopers will play today in an elimination game against the Cheyenne Hawks beginning at 1pm.
Cowen says the team knows better than to underestimate this opponent.
As for the other state tournament scores from yesterday, Gillette shutout the host team Casper 2-0.
Earlier in the day in the elimination games, Laramie beat Rock Springs 12-5 and the Cheyenne Hawks were 1 run better than Jackson 9-8.
The schedule for today will be Sheridan vs. the Cheyenne Hawks in an elimination game at 1pm.
The other elimination game is at 4pm between Laramie and Casper.
At 7pm it will be Cheyenne Post 6 vs. Gillette.
The winner of that game is guaranteed a spot in Friday’s State Championship Game.
Sheridan Trooper Players Earn All-State Honors: Six Sheridan Troopers players won all-state honors for this season.
Avon Barney, Cael Hamrick and Tyler Hutton won First Team All-State Honors.
For Hutton this is first All-State Honor.
Hamrick was named 2nd team All-State in 2022 and First Team All-State last year.
Barney was named First Team All-State last year as well and this year he was named the Wyoming AA Pitcher of the Year.
Tanner Hamrick, Frankie Maestri and Tyler Riesen earned 2nd Team All-State Honors for this season.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost the first game of a 3-games series last night at the LA Angels 10-7.
Ryan McMahon hit a 3-run home run and Ezequiel Tovar hit a solo shot, but it was not enough.
Today’s game is scheduled to start at 7:38pm.
University of Wyoming Football: Practice for the University of Wyoming Cowboy Football team starts today, as the first season under new head coach Jay Sawvel begins.
The team will conduct 20 fall camp practices, before the first game week of the season.
The Pokes return 6 of their top 7 tacklers from last year.
UW was picked to finish 6th out of the 12 teams in the Mountain West Conference.
In addition to playing 7 conference games this season, all teams will also play either Washington State or Oregon State, but those 2 teams will be ineligible to play in the Mountain West Conference Championship Game.
The Brown and Gold kickoff the season, 1 month from today at Arizona State and the home opener is on Saturday, September 7th vs. Idaho.
