Sheridan’s Mitch Godwin Wins Strongman Nationals Competition: A Sheridan native has made Wyoming history in competitive weightlifting.

Earlier this month, Mitch Godwin, a 2013 Sheridan HS graduate, competed and won the 2024 US Strongman Nationals Competition in Denver, Colorado.

He was in the sub-308 pound weight class, which is a sub-class of super heavyweights.

Godwin placed first in the Yoke Walk, tied for 2nd in the Powerbar Deadlift, was 5th in the sandbag to shoulder carry load and was 2nd in the stone over bar competition.

He says he’s been participating in competitive weightlifting for about 4-5 years, and at first he was working out to lose weight, got bored and then he got some inspiration.

Godwin adds unlike most other sports, experience in strongman doesn’t always give a competitor an advantage.

Godwin currently works as an operations coordinator at the Sheridan Wastewater Treatment Plant.

He says before this year, there had never been a strongman national champion from Wyoming.

Two other Wyomingites also won their respective weight classes at this year’s competition.

Those two are CJ Allen from Douglas and Landon Whitt from Cheyenne.

Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Troopers are now on the road to Omaha, Nebraska for a 7 and possibly 8-game road trip.

The team is eager to get back in action after dropping both conference games this past Friday at Casper, in walk-off fashion.

Coach Austin Cowen says losses like those sting, but the sooner the team can play its next game, the sooner they can put the losses behind them and show they’ve learned their lessons.

The Troopers play today at 4pm at Holdrege, Nebraska.

Tomorrow they will play in Omaha, against Fargo, North Dakota and Bryant, Arkansas back-to-back starting at 5pm.

Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies dropped the 1st of a 4-game series yesterday at home vs. the LA Dodgers 9-5.

Jacob Stallings went yard by himself in the 2nd inning.

Greg Jones hit a solo home run and Hunter Goodman had a 2-run shot.

Both of those happened in the bottom of the 9th inning, but it was not enough.

Game 2 of the 4-game series is today starting at 6:40pm.

NBA Finals: The Boston Celtics are once again champs as they defeated Dallas last night 106-88, to win the series 4-1.

Boston now has 18 NBA titles, which is now tops in the NBA, by 1 ahead of the LA Lakers.
