University of Wyoming Spring Football Practice: Spring practice for the University of Wyoming football team enters the 2nd of 5 weeks today.

The Pokes return 16 starters from last year’s team that won 9 games, including 8 on defense.

New head Coach Jay Sawvel says he can tell that players were committed to getting their winter workouts in, and according to some new numbers, the Cowboys could have a little more size than normal.

This Saturday’s practice is scheduled to be open to the public.

More details are forthcoming.

The Spring game is scheduled for Saturday, April 27th in Cheyenne.

University of Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball: The season for the Wyoming Cowgirls ended last night with a 65-54 loss at home vs. Minnesota in the quarter-finals of the WNIT.

The game was tied at 40 heading into the 4th quarter, but free throws made the difference, as Minnesota was 13 of 19 in the final 10 minutes, while UW for the game was only 8 of 12.

Allyson Fertig had another double-double as she scored 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.

Wyoming finishes the season with a record of 18-15.

Sheridan HS Soccer: Sheridan resumes conference play this week.

There’s been a change in the girls schedule.

Saturday’s home game vs. Cheyenne Central has been moved up to Thursday, so that Central won’t be rushing home on Saturday to get to their prom.

Friday’s home game vs. Cheyenne East is still on as planned.

The Sheridan boys will stick to their schedule and play at Cheyenne East on Friday and at Cheyenne Central on Saturday.

Sheridan County HS Track and Field: Sheridan will compete Friday at Spearfish, South Dakota.

Big Horn and Arvada-Clearmont are scheduled to compete on Friday at Glenrock, and then BH is scheduled to compete again on Saturday at Worland.

Tongue River is scheduled to begin their season on Saturday at Greybull.

Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Troopers start their season this Saturday with a home double-header vs. defending A-League State Champ Powell.

The 2 teams played each other 5 times last year, with the Troopers winning all of them.

Shortstop Kael Hamrick says the Troopers already know what to expect from the Pioneers, because almost everyone, if not everyone is back, and they will be a worthy season opening opponent.

First pitch Saturday is scheduled for 1pm.

Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies were shutout yesterday afternoon at the Chicago Cubs, 5-zip.

Game 2 of the 3 game series is today with first pitch scheduled for 5:40pm.

Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche have hit a little bit of a slump, as they lost last night at Columbus 4-1.

It’s their 3rd loss in the last 4 games, and with 7 games remaining, games are becoming more important in terms of playoff seeding.

Colorado is already assured of a playoff spot and next play Thursday at Minnesota.
