Sheridan/Buffalo HS Boys Swimming And Diving: The first state champions of the winter sports season have been crowned and one Sheridan High School senior is quite used to it.

At the Boys Swimming and Diving Meet this past weekend in Cheyenne, Bronc Senior Ben Forsythe would 3-peat as state champ in the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke races.

In the team standings, Sheridan was 7th.

Cheyenne Central took home the title.

In the 3A State Meet, Buffalo won 7 events to bring home the state runner-up trophy.

Everett Thomas won both the 50 yard and 100 yard freestyle races.

Asher Murray won the 100 yard butterfly, and Jay Hahn took 1st in the 100 yard breaststroke races.

The Bison also finished 1st in the 200 yard Medley Relay, as well as the 200 yard and 400 yard freestyle races.

Lander would 30-peat as 3A State Champs.

Sheridan/Johnson County HS Wrestling: Regional Meets were held this past weekend.

The Sheridan girls finished 1st in the team standings at the East Regional Meet at Douglas, thanks to 1st place finishes by Searney O’Brien at 120 pounds and Dani Grooms at 145 pounds.

On the boys side, Sheridan was 3rd at the 4A East Regional Meet at Thunder Basin.

Logan Rager won the bracket at 144 pounds, Keegan Rager won at 175 pounds and Kelten Crow won at 190 pounds.

Tongue River was 2nd at the 2A East Regional Meet held at Wright.

Trey Breen was tops at 144 pounds.

The state meet begins this coming Thursday at Casper.

Sheridan County HS Basketball: The Sheridan boys and girls both won at Campbell County this past Friday.

The Broncs and Lady Broncs are scheduled to conclude the regular season this coming Friday at home vs. Thunder Basin.

The regular season has ended for Big Horn, Tongue River and Arvada-Clearmont.

2A and 1A will proceed to their respective regional tournaments beginning Thursday.

The 2A East will play at Pine Bluffs, while the 1A East is at Torrington.

Both BH teams have a first round bye and won’t play until Friday.

Both the Tongue River boys and girls will take on Wright on Thursday.

The winners qualify for the state tournament and will play again on Friday and Saturday, while the losers are done for the season.

The Arvada-Clearmont girls will play Southeast in their first round game on Thursday, while the season is over for the A-C boys.


Johnson County HS Basketball: Buffalo swept a home double-header this past Friday vs. Douglas.

The Bison are next scheduled to play on Friday at Glenrock, and then take on Newcastle on Saturday in their home finale.

The Kaycee girls are in the 1A East Regional Tournament and will play on Thursday vs. Lusk.

The season has ended for the boys.

Sheridan Amateur Hockey: The Sheridan Lady Hawks lost all 4 home games this past weekend vs. Pinedale and Jackson.

The 2-time defending state champs will have the #4 seed at the upcoming state tournament, which begins on March 6th in Cheyenne.

As for the Sheridan boys, they are hosting the Wyoming B State Tournament beginning this Friday.

The Hawks have the #1 seed and get a first round bye.

University of Wyoming Men’s and Women’s Basketball: The Wyoming Cowboys were victorious on the road this past Saturday against Grand Canyon University 70-65.

A 12-zip run late in the second half made the difference.

The Pokes scored more points off of turnovers (17-8) and won the bench battle (34-2).

Leland Walker and Simm-Marten Saadi led the way with 13 points each, while Nasir Meyer put in 11.

UW is now 15-12 on the season and have a 6-10 record in the Mountain West Conference.

The Brown and Gold are next scheduled to play tomorrow at Boise State.

The Wyoming Cowgirls lost Round 2 of the Border War this past Saturday at home vs. Colorado State 62-48.

The ladies only shot 32% from the field, while the opposition was at 50%.

Malene Pedersen scored 13 points for the cause and Henna Sandvik scored a dozen.

Jane Rumpf grabbed 12 rebounds.

Wyoming is now 9-17 on the season and have a 6-11 record in the Mountain West Conference.

The ladies are next scheduled to play this coming Wednesday at Air Force.


Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets split weekend road games, winning against Portland 157-103, but lost yesterday at Golden State 128-117.

The Nuggets are next scheduled to play this coming Wednesday at home vs. Boston.


Colorado Rockies Pre-Season Baseball: The Colorado Rockies went 1-2 during the first weekend of games.

On Friday, the Rocks lost at home vs. Arizona 2-1, then won on Saturday at Arizona 11-6.

Adael Amador hit a solo home run in that game.

Colorado lost yesterday at Texas 9-5.

The Rockies are next scheduled to play today at home against the Chicago White Sox.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:10pm.
