Former Sheridan Bronc Football Players To Play In FCS National Championship Game: Today is the Football Championship Subdivision National Championship Game in Nashville, Tennessee and several former Sheridan Broncs will play in that game.
Brock Steel, as well as his younger brother Dane Steel, and Colson Coon, all of which have seen some playing time this season, play for the #2 seed Montana State Bobcats, who go up against unseeded Illinois State, a team that has won 4 playoff games all on the road, and is trying to finish a cinderella run.
Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30pm.
MSU played in last year’s FCS National Championship Game, but had their undefeated season spoiled in that game by North Dakota State.
Sheridan HS Nordic Ski: The nordic ski season started this past weekend in Pinedale.
Kayley and Macey Alicke finished 1st and 2nd in Friday’s 7.5 kilometer race, while Gabe Aasby and Kade Shideman were 4th and 5th on the boys side.
In Saturday’s classic race Aasby and Macey both placed 11th in their respective races.
The next nordic ski competition is scheduled for this coming Friday and Saturday on Casper Mountain.
Sheridan/Buffalo HS Boys Swimming and Diving: Buffalo finished 1st and Sheridan was 2nd at the Gillette Holiday Invitational this past Saturday.
Bronc Senior Ben Forsythe finished 1st in 2 races.
This coming weekend is the Sheridan Pre-Invite and Sheridan Invitational.
Buffalo is scheduled to go to Powell on Saturday.
Sheridan HS Girls Wrestling: Sheridan finished in a tie for 7th and 8th place out of 43 teams at a tournament in Belgrade, Montana.
Searney O’Brien was the highest finisher for the team at 4th in her weight class.
All Sheridan and Johnson County High School wrestling teams are scheduled to compete this weekend at the Shane Shatto Invitational.
The boys version is in Douglas, and the girls are in Glenrock.
Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks split weekend road games at Bozeman, winning on Friday 7-2, but lost on Saturday 2-1 in overtime.
In Friday’s game, Vincent Leaf scored 4 goals.
The team is back on the road again this coming weekend with a pair of games at Great Falls.
University of Wyoming Men’s and Women’s Basketball: The Wyoming Cowboys lost on Saturday at New Mexico 78-58.
Second half shooting was the difference, as the Pokes only made 32% of their shots, compared to 51% for the Lobos.
Leland Walker was the only Cowboy to score in double digits with 14 points.
UW is now 10-4 on the season and have a 1-2 record in the Mountain West Conference.
The team is next scheduled to play tomorrow at home vs. UNLV.
The Wyoming Cowgirls lost on Saturday at home vs. San Diego State 72-55.
The ladies were only down by 2 at halftime, but then got outscored in the 3rd quarter 22-5, and for the game, they only got 1 point from the bench.
Malene Pedersen and Henna Sandvik both scored 17 points, while Jane Rumpf added 11.
Wyoming is now 4-9 on the season and have a 1-3 record in the Mountain West Conference.
The team is next scheduled to play this coming Wednesday at Nevada.
Denver Broncos Football/NFL Playoffs: The Denver Broncos won their regular season finale yesterday at home vs. the LA Chargers 19-3, to secure the #1 seed in the AFC for the playoffs.
Will Lutz kicked 4 field goals and the defense provided the lone touchdown of the game as Ja’Quan McMillian delivered a 45 yard pick 6.
Quarterback Bo Nix was 14 of 23 passing for 141 yards, and was sacked 4 times.
The Broncos finished tied with New England for the #1 seed, and although the team did not play the Patriots, Denver won the common opponents tie-breaker.
Long story short…New England’s loss at home against the Las Vegas Raiders in the first game of the season, made the difference.
The Broncos get a first round bye in the playoffs and will play the lowest seed that’s still alive after this weekend’s games.
In the other AFC playoff matchups…the Chargers are the #7 seed and visit New England on Sunday at 6pm.
Buffalo is the #6 seed and will travel to Jacksonville for an 11am game Sunday.
Houston is the #5 seed and goes to Pittsburgh on Monday at 6:15pm.
In the NFC playoffs, Seattle is the #1 seed and gets the other first round bye.
On Saturday, it’s the LA Rams at Carolina beginning at 2:30pm, and then Green Bay at Chicago will kickoff at 6pm.
San Francisco at Philadelphia is a Sunday game at 2:30pm.
Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets lost both games on the road this past weekend.
On Friday, the team lost at Cleveland 113-108 and then lost yesterday at Brooklyn 127-115.
The Nuggets are next scheduled to play today at Philadelphia.
Tip off is scheduled for 6:30pm.
Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche split weekend road games.
The team won on Saturday at Carolina 5-3, but lost yesterday at 2-time defending Stanley Cup Champ Florida, 2-1.
The Avs are next scheduled to play tomorrow at Tampa Bay.
