Morning Sports: May 4, 2026
Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Troopers went 2-1 in home games vs. Rapid City Post 22 this past weekend, and saved the drama for yesterday’s rubber game.
Down 1-nothing in the bottom of the 7th, Owen Mathews led off the inning with a solo home run.
The Troopers would later load up the bases and then Blaine Phillips delivered a walk off single to win it and even up the teams’ record on the season at 6-6.
Sheridan won the first game on Saturday 8-6, and dropped the second game 10-5.
The team is scheduled to play a home double-header on Saturday against Lovell.
Sheridan/Buffalo HS Soccer: The Sheridan boys had to settle for a tie at home vs. Cheyenne Central on Friday, then shutout Cheyenne East on Saturday.
In that game, freshman Aleks Carroll set a new school record for most assists in 1 season, plus the Broncs set a new school record for most goals scored in 1 season.
The Lady Broncs won both games against the same 2 opponents on the road.
Sheridan is next scheduled to play Campbell County tomorrow.
For the girls, it is their home finale, while the boys play on the road.
As for Buffalo, the Bison won both games at home vs. Douglas and at Rawlins, while the Lady Bison won the first game, but lost the second in a shootout.
Buffalo is next scheduled to play at Newcastle on Friday.
It will be a girls only game, because the Dogies do not have a boys team this year.
On Saturday, both Buffalo teams play at home vs. Torrington.

Sheridan High School Softball: Sheridan played in Gillette this past weekend and ended up going 3-1 against the southeast quadrant teams.
The Lady Broncs won vs. Cheyenne East and Torrington on Friday, then lost by 1 against Cheyenne Central and defeated Wheatland on Saturday.
Sheridan returns home this week for a doubleheader on Thursday vs. Worland and on Friday vs. Jackson.

Sheridan/Johnson County HS Track and Field: The best of the best, regardless what class they were in, competed in Casper this past weekend at the Wyoming Track Classic.
Cole Bunting of Sheridan won the boys pole vault, Loralai Ketner won the girls 300 meter hurdles, and Ethan Rayo of Buffalo won the boys 3200 meter run.
Sheridan is next scheduled to compete on Friday at Campbell County.
Big Horn hosts a dual against Tongue River on Wednesday for relay runners, throwers and jumpers.
Sheridan Mavericks Lacrosse: The Sheridan Mavericks traveled to Cheyenne and picked up a pair of wins.
The Mavs beat the host team 19-4 and then won a big game against Cody 17-16.
Sheridan is next scheduled to play the same 2 teams this weekend at Cody, while the Lady Mavericks are back in action with games scheduled at Jackson.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost all 3 games this past weekend at home against Atlanta.
Friday’s score was 8-6, a game in which the Rocks had a 6-nothing lead after 2 innings, and could not hold on.
Mickey Moniak hit a solo home run to help build that initial 6-nothing lead.
Saturday’s score was 9-1 and yesterday’s score was 11-6.
TJ Rumfeld hit a solo shot, and Moniak hit both a 2-run and a solo blast.
Colorado starts a 3-game home series today against the New York Mets.
First pitch is scheduled for 3:40pm.
Colorado Avalanche Hockey/NHL Playoffs: It was a goal fest last night for both the Colorado Avalanche and the Minnesota Wild in Game 1 of their second round best of 7 series in Denver.
The Avs scored their first 3 goals in a stretch of 2 minutes and 1 second midway through the first period, and that paved the way to a 9-6 win.
Colorado is scheduled to host Game 2 tomorrow.
The other second round matchups are set.
Today is Game 1 between Philadelphia at Carolina, as well as Anaheim at Las Vegas.
Montreal prevailed in Game 7 last night at Tampa Bay, and move on to play at Buffalo in Game 1 on Wednesday.
NBA Playoffs: All 2nd round matchups are set.
Game 1 is today between Philadelphia at New York and Minnesota at San Antonio.
Cleveland at Detroit as well as the LA Lakers at Oklahoma City play tomorrow.
