Morning Sports: August 18, 2026
Football practice for all high schools not involved in Class 4A started yesterday, and that included the Eagles of Tongue River.
Last year the team went 1-7.
Numbers are up, but with only 3 seniors on this year’s squad, the experience is lacking.
Senior T.J. Watkins says with school starting next week, TR needs to get a lot done between now and then.
Head Coach Steve Hanson says he is very pleased that more players are expressing interest in wanting to play.
Tongue River is scheduled to start the season with a scrimmage vs. Pinedale on Friday, August 28th and that will be played at Riverton.
The regular season begins on September 4th at Thermopolis and the home opener is on September 18th vs. Newcastle.
Kaycee HS Football: Kaycee has announced that the school will not field a team this season in the 6-man league.
No word yet on if those who want to play can either co-op at either Midwest or at Buffalo.
Sheridan HS Volleyball: High School Volleyball also started practice yesterday, and the new coach for Sheridan has some history in this part of the state.
Ana Gale is from Serbia, and once played at Sheridan College.
She has also done some coaching at Tongue River and at Cody.
Gale says she noticed that the program has slowly been on the rise during the past 2 years, and it needs to come together a little bit more.
The Sheridan Lady Broncs are scheduled to start the 2026 season on Friday and Saturday, August 28th and 29th at the Cheyenne Invitational.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost the first game of a 3-game series last night at home against the LA Dodgers 11-5.
The 2 teams are scheduled to play each other again today, beginning at 6:40pm.
