Sheridan College Rodeo: The Sheridan College Men’s Rodeo team has put themselves in position to compete for the College National Championship.
Thanks to a 3rd place finish at this past weekend’s University of Wyoming Rodeo Event, the team finished in the top 2 of the Central Rocky Mountain Region (CRMR) Team Standings for the 2025-’26 season.
According to National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) rules, the Sheridan College Men’s team can have up to 6 men competitors at the 2026 College National Finals Rodeo, which is scheduled to take place June 14th thru the 20th in Casper.
Those competitors who placed in the top 3 in each individual event automatically qualify.
If a team does not have enough top 3 finishers to complete their team, non top 3 finishers are allowed to compete at the CNFR, provided they finished in the top 5 or top 30% of the event they competed in.
Jake Schlattmann won the saddle bronc riding competition at UW, and with the win, he also became the Region Champion.
Christopher Nelson is also CNFR bound, for placing 3rd in the saddle bronc region standings.
Lonnie Dunn was 3rd in saddle broncs at the UW Rodeo, and finished 4th in the region.
Reece Reder was 2nd at the UW rodeo in bareback riding and finished 4th in the region.
Tyon Arneson finished 5th in the region in Tie-Down Roping.
For Dunn, Reder and Arneson, they are not officially in the CNFR, but based on NIRA rules, it is highly probable that they will be in.
For the Sheridan College women, Sierra Hilgenkamp placed 2nd at the UW rodeo in the breakaway roping, which was enough for her to complete her late season surge, and place 2nd in the region, making her the lone cowgirl to qualify for the CNFR.
Josie Johnson tied for 1st in the barrel racing at the UW rodeo, but did not have enough points in the region standings to finish in the top 3.
Sheridan HS Softball: There’s less than 1 month remaining in the season and Sheridan has a lot of games to play.
The Lady Broncs are scheduled to visit Cody today for a double-header beginning at 2pm.
This weekend the team will be in Gillette, to take on Cheyenne East and Torrington on Friday, as well as Cheyenne Central and Wheatland on Saturday.
Sheridan Head Coach Kristen Czaben says since games this weekend don’t have any impact on regional seeding, the Lady Broncs are going to stir the pot on some of their strategies.
There’s been no official word yet on a make-up date for the home double-header vs. Campbell County, which was supposed to be played last Friday, but was postponed due to the weather.
Denver Nuggets Basketball/NBA Playoffs: The Denver Nuggets stayed alive last night with a 125-113 win at home vs. Minnesota, in Game 5 of their first round best of 7 series.
The Timberwolves still lead the series 3-2.
Game 6 is scheduled for Thursday at Minneapolis.
The Nuggets have to win to force Game 7, which would be played on Saturday in Denver.
In other playoff scores from last night, Oklahoma City won Game 4 at Phoenix 131-122, to sweep the series 4-zip.
The Thunder advance to the 2nd round and are waiting for the Houston-LA Lakers winner.
Orlando won at home vs. Detroit 94-88.
The Magic have the top seed from the east on the ropes, leading 3 games to 1.
NHL Playoffs: Las Vegas won in overtime last night at Utah 5-4, to tie up their series at 2 wins each.
Pittsburgh stayed alive again by winning at home vs. Philadelphia 3-2, and now trail that series 3-2.
