Sheridan HS Softball: The Sheridan High School softball team went 2-1 with 1 tie in their opening weekend of games this past weekend in Cheyenne.

In 3 of their games, the Lady Broncs jumped on their opponents early, which is different from last year when most of the time, they were in comeback mode.

Head Coach Kristen Czaban says the change in offensive strategy has its pros and cons.

A different downside to the strategy showed up in the loss to Rock Springs and in the tie to Laramie.

In the latter, Sheridan had a 10-1 lead and lost it.

The Lady Broncs start Northeast quadrant play this weekend, with their home opener on Friday vs. Thunder Basin, and a trip to Campbell County on Saturday.

University of Wyoming Spring Football: The Wyoming Cowboys held their first spring practice yesterday in Laramie.

One of the strengths of last year’s team was the defense which was the 3rd best in the Mountain West Conference against the pass, which also was ranked 14th in the nation and was the 3rd best when it came to giving up points, but was the 2nd best nationally in the red zone.

The D also was 17th best nationally at giving up first downs.

Head Coach Jay Sawvel says he’s optimistic that things can be even better this year.

The annual spring game is scheduled for April 25th.

Mountain West Conference Men’s Basketball: New Mexico won their Men’s NIT Quarterfinal game last night at home vs. St. Joseph’s 84-69.

The Lobos advance to the semifinals to take on Tulsa.

That game will be played one week from tomorrow in Indianapolis.

Meanwhile, Nevada is scheduled to play its men’s NIT quarterfinal game today at Auburn, starting at 7pm.

Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets won last night at Phoenix 125-123.

The Nuggets are next scheduled to play today at home vs. Dallas.

Tip off is scheduled for 8pm.

Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche won last night at Pittsburgh 6-2.

The Avs are next scheduled to play tomorrow at Winnipeg.

Colorado Rockies Pre-Season Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost yesterday at home vs. Detroit 11-8.

Brett Sullivan hit a solo home run, and Ezequiel Tovar added a 2-run shot for the cause, but it was not enough.

Spring Training has now concluded and the Rocks have today and tomorrow off from competition.

The team starts the regular season this coming Friday, with the first of 3 games at Miami.

The New York Yankees and the San Francisco Giants play each other in the first game of the season today.

A number of other teams are scheduled to start tomorrow, and the rest, including Colorado, begin on Friday.
