Sheridan Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Legion Baseball Board is trying to be cautious about its next move, when it comes to who will coach the Troopers.
Earlier this month, the Board unanimously relieved Austin Cowen of coaching duties.
While addressing and listening to a group of about 100 people yesterday, including current and former players, parents and other coaches, board members said they’re not in league to discuss the reasons behind the dismissal, similar to how a business doesn’t have to explain why an employee was fired.
Members of the crowd fired back saying that by-laws are out of date.
In a phone interview with Sheridan Media, Cowen said he was not at the meeting when the vote took place and was blindsided when he found out.
He adds he’s been humbled with the recent outpouring of support, but did not give a definitive answer on if he would come back, should the board reverse course.
Board members say no official decision has been made as to who the new Head Coach for the Troopers will be.
Cowen has been the Troopers Head Coach for the past 3 years and the team finished this year as Wyoming AA State Runners-Up.
Before that, Cowen coached the Sheridan Jets and led them to the Wyoming A-League State Championship in 2019 and 2021.
University Of Wyoming Football: It took for a while for the Wyoming Cowboy offense to get going in last week’s loss at Colorado, but that unit did eventually get going.
The same could not be said for the defense, aside from 1 blocked field goal and 1 fumble recovery.
The D only forced 3 punts, and gave up a total of 497 yards.
UW Head Coach Jay Sawvel says defensively, the team did not meet expectations.
The Brown and Gold have this week off from competition.
The Pokes are back in action next weekend, as the team starts conference play on Saturday, October 4th at home vs. UNLV.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies were off yesterday and will start a 3-game series today at Seattle.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:40pm.
Although the Rocks will finish with a better record than last year’s Chicago White Sox team, which is the worst 162-game record in Major League Baseball history, the team will finish with the worst 162-game record in National League history.
The old record was the 2004 Arizona Diamondbacks who went 51-111 that year.
As of today, Colorado has 43 wins, with 6 games remaining on their schedule.
This year’s Rockies team will become just the 5th team ever in a 162-game season, to not reach 50 wins in 1 season.
Should the team lose their remaining 6 games, the Rocks would finish tied with the 2003 Detroit Tigers, for the second worst 162-game season record ever.
