Sheridan Hawks Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey team have been road warriors for the first part of this season.

They’ve played 11 of their first 14 games on the road and split a 2-game series at Butte this past weekend.

Being on the road as often as the Hawks have been, can sometimes make a team road weary, and Coach J.J. Santagata says while that can be an excuse to some extent, there were a few mistakes made at Butte that should not have been made at all.

Sheridan catches a little bit of a break on the schedule as the team returns home to face Rapid City this coming Friday and Saturday and have next weekend off from competition.

The schedule will eventually balance itself out as the Hawks don’t play any road games in January and in the early part of February.

Sheridan County HS Football: The 2024 Wyoming Regular season concludes this weekend.

Some teams already have their playoff spots locked up, others are still jockeying for positioning, a few are still trying to make the post-season and the rest will clean out their lockers come Monday.

While teams may be focused on which opponent they have this week, some will do a little scoreboard watching to see which team they might face in the first round of the playoffs.

Sheridan is already locked into the #1 spot in 4A, so their game this Friday at Laramie means nothing as far as the playoffs are concerned.

Depending on which other teams win and lose this weekend, there’s a possibility the Broncs could play the Plainsmen again next weekend, but the rematch would be played at Sheridan.

Other scenarios could see the Broncs playing a rematch with either Cheyenne Central or Kelly Walsh.

Big Horn is locked into the 2A #1 East seed for the post-season and will use this weekend’s game at Upton-Sundance as a tuneup.

There’s only 2 possible teams that the Rams could face in the first round.

If Worland wins at home vs. Kemmerer this coming Friday, then BH will host the Warriors in the first round of the 2A playoffs.

If Worland loses, then Thermopolis will play a visit to Ram Country next weekend.

Tongue River is already eliminated, but will conclude their season this Friday at home vs. Glenrock.

Buffalo is in a do or die game this Friday at Lander, while Kaycee needs a win on Saturday at Ten Sleep and needs Meeteetse to lose on Friday.

University of Wyoming Football: The Wyoming Cowboys are going to try to stir the pot this Saturday on offense at home vs. Utah State.

Coach Jay Sawvel says the Pokes will use both starting quarterback Evan Svoboda and backup QB Kaden Anderson.

This year has been somewhat of a reversal of last year, in that last year, the Pokes won 4 out of 5 games that were decided by 1 score.

This year, 3 of their 6 losses…Idaho, San Diego State and San Jose State, have been by a combined total of 17 points.

Sawvel adds it’s been costly mistakes each time, and the Cowboys need to stop being their own worst enemy.

Although the UW defense gave up nearly 500 total yards vs. San Jose State, they did come up with 2 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries and blocked one field goal, however the offense converted those turnovers into a total of zero points.

Kickoff for this Saturday’s game is scheduled for 5pm.

Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche won last night at Seattle 3-2.

The Avs next play tomorrow at Utah.
