The Sheridan Bronc Football Team will make another trip to enemy territory this week.
Natrona is where the big game is at, on Friday night.
Like the Broncs, the Mustangs are also 2-0 on the season, and NC hasn’t had this good of a start since they last won it all back in 2018.
Sheridan Head Coach Jeff Mowry says the opposition is very talented and very experienced this year.
He adds it’s going to take a team effort to win in what is usually a very hostile environment.
“They’re going to give their athletes the ball, and they’re going to put it in space and they have very very good athletes. Very senior heavy depending on which quarterback starts. They may not have a junior starter on the field. They maybe all seniors. They have a great senior class and anytime Natrona County has a senior class like that, they see success. They are physical and our guys, I think have the ability to go do it. We’ve got to have the mind set to go do it. We’ve got to have 11 men go attack and go do it. If we just have 1 or 2 do it, it’s not going to work out. We’ve got to have all 11 on the field to have that mind set, if we’re going to attack just like them. If you’re not ready, they’re going to put you on your tail and so we’ve got to have that mind set to go out and attack and continue to attack and stay on the attack the entire game.”
Kickoff in Casper tomorrow is scheduled for 7pm.
Meanwhile, Sheridan County’s 2A teams start conference play this week.
Big Horn is at home against a Wheatland team that has only managed to score 6 points in each of their games played so far.
Rams Head Coach Kirk McLaughlin says he was very pleased with the team’s 4-quarter effort in last week’s win at Lovell.
When it comes to preparing for the Bulldogs, sometimes you don’t know what you’re going to get from that team.
“They’ve got a different look this year. They’re doing some different things. They’ve got some great players. Their quarterback, number 7, great football player on both sides of the ball. We’re going to have to find a way to be physical and stop their run game. They’re going to be tough. We’re not going to look past them by any means. We think going into the season, we thought they’d be one of the tougher conference opponents, so we’re going to be ready. We think we can do some good things against them, but their run game is going to be tough to stop.”
Kickoff at BH tomorrow is scheduled for 6pm.
On the other side of Sheridan County, Tongue River and Burns both got thumped on the road by 2A West competition last week.
Tomorrow the Eagles will get the comforts of home, while the opposition has to make another cross state trip.
TR Head Coach Steve Hanson says despite the final score, his players did well against a much improved Thermopolis team, before getting worn down by the opposition.
He adds this week’s game is one that can set the tone for the rest of the season, provided the players don’t underestimate the opponent.
“I do think our run game is going to come alive this week. This is going to be the week when we’re really capable of putting some things together and getting our run game going, and I also think that our pass game is going to be much more efficient than it’s been in weeks past. What we need to be able to do, in addition to those things, is we need to be able to hold up their passing attack. They’ve got a quarterback with an arm that can sling it all over the field and a couple of guys that can go up and get it.”
Kickoff at TR tomorrow is scheduled for 1pm.
