cvannoyOn Wednesday, September 11, Sheridan Fire and Rescue held a special program to honor those who died in the 9-11 Terrorist attacks in 2001. It was held at the Sheridan Fire-Rescue Department, 151 South Scott Street in Sheridan. The Chief Officer of Sheridan Fire-Rescue addressed the crowd.
Included in the ceremony were Sheridan Fire-Rescue. local Law Enforcement, Firefighters, Emergency Medical Technicians.
At 0759, the time of South Tower Collapse. The LaFrance bell was rung 5-5-5 (three sets of five chimes each) and at 0800 one minute of complete silence was observed.
Scott Lee of the Bethesda Worship Center in Sheridan gave an invocation.
He then asked the audience to join him in the Lord’s Prayer with him.
Also attending the ceremony were the students of the Holy Name School.
The 9/11 attacks left 2,977 dead. That total included the 2,753 who died in New York, 184 people at the Pentagon and 40 people who died when Flight 93 crashed in Pennsylvania.
Then there was a release of doves in remembrance, and a performance of Amazing Grace on the bagpipes.
After the ceremony, the public was invited inside the fire station for coffee and donuts.
Ben Wetzel, a lead medic with Wyoming Regional EMS was one of the first responders at the event.
Sheridan County Sheridan Levi Dominguez, also commented on the ceremony.
George Neeson, Sheridan Fire-Rescue Chief, talked about the attendance at the ceremony, and about the memorial that was created in 2015 to remember those who died.
The memorial made by Sheridan College students honoring those who died and including objects that were once a part of the World Trade Center.
