Music on the Mall Returns August 27 With More Music, Activities and Local Vendors

Sheridan College kicked off rodeo week in July with Music on the Mall and is inviting the community back to campus to welcome students with another round of musical celebration.

The family-friendly event will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, on the Whitney Mall in the heart of the Sheridan College campus, featuring live music, arts-and-crafts vendors, food, beer and wine, and bouncy houses for the children. Admission is free and open to the public.

Sheridan-based band Trout Goggles will kick things off at 4 p.m. with their upbeat blend of bluegrass, featuring songs about fishing, mountain life and good times with friends. The band’s influences range from jam grass to Canadian and Irish folk music to modern rock.

Laramie-based Bob Lefevre & The Already Gone will take the stage at 5 p.m. Known for blending the storytelling tradition of alt-country with the energy of rock and roll, the group has earned recognition for a sound reminiscent of Drive-By Truckers and Lucero. The band’s music explores themes of longing and heartbreak through raw lyrics and punk-infused rock ‘n roll.

Headlining the event, Lilly Hiatt and her band from Nashville will take the stage at 6:30 p.m. The daughter of singer-songwriter John Hiatt, she is known for vulnerable lyrics and a guitar-driven sound that NPR has described as “courageous and affecting.” She’s performed with the likes of John Prine, Margo Price, and Hiss Golden Messenger in addition to festival slots from Pilgrimage to Luck Reunion. The audience will hear songs from her newest album “Forever.”

“Music on the Mall brings so much fun and community to our campus,” Sheridan College President Walt Tribley said. “We are excited to welcome students back with an event that reminds everyone that this is a place to gather and enjoy all aspects of life. From the joy of learning to the joy of spending time together, we are proud to provide a venue where it all happens.”

In addition to the musical performances, attendees can browse arts-and-crafts vendors, enjoy food from our on-campus grill and pizza counter, and relax with beer and wine in a beautiful outdoor setting. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets for seating.

If the recent hot weather continues, the bouncy houses will have a water feature, so children who plan to participate should bring towels and suitable clothing for water play, though this feature is weather dependent and may not be necessary. Outside food, beverages, and pets are not permitted. For more information about the lineup, visit sheridan.edu/musiconthemall.
