A/C School BBQ and Open House

The Annual Arvada-Clearmont School Back to School BBQ and Open House was held on Thursday, August 13.

In looking forward to the school year, school starts on Monday, Jolene Poppenga Administrative Assistant, said she had all the positions filled for the upcoming year. “I don’t have a single position open. Even all the bus drivers, everything.”

She said that there are a lot of new faces this year, and enrollment is currently a little over 65 students. She said last year 11 students graduated and after that the enrollment stood at 48, so several new students enrolled this fall. She said that around 40% are out of district students.

Arvada-Clearmont school offers small classes, where students receive individual attention. Poppenga added, “Some of our classes are huge this year, huge for us. The sixth and eighth grade classes are the largest, one has 11 students and one has 12.”

Karen Carvalho, who has three students enrolled in A/C School, said this about the upcoming year.

One problem in a small school can be finding enough students to form basketball and volleyball teams. The new activities director Morgan Kremers, who wears several other hats at A/C School, talked about the upcoming sports season.

A good crowd attended the event.

The Clearmont Community Church furnished free back-packs and school supplies for students in grades K-6. This has been an on-going tradition for many years. They will also be offering an after-school kids club on Wednesdays, beginning September 9, from 4-5:45 p.m. at the church, which is right across from the school.
