Sheridan Memorial Hospital Considering Full Takeover Of Ambulance Services
Ambulance service in Sheridan and Campbell Counties could soon undergo an ownership change, but it should not affect any services that are provided.
The Sheridan Memorial Hospital is in talks with Campbell County Health regarding SMH taking full ownership of Wyoming Regional Emergency Medical Services, so that it can apply for certain grant funding from the Rural Health Transformation Fund. Currently both Sheridan and Campbell County each own 50% of Wyoming Regional EMS.
SMH has a better chance of getting the funding if it becomes a Critical Access Hospital, which is a work in progress, and if it owns 100% of the ambulance services.
Campbell County Health can’t apply for the funding, because it is a Prospective Payment System facility (PPS).
SMH CEO Mike McCafferty says if the ownership change happens, ambulance service in both Sheridan and Campbell Counties should continue as they have been.
“The people of Sheridan and the surrounding region are not going to see any change on the surface of ambulance service, which is a good thing. It’s just really changing some of the details behind the scenes administratively, so that we meet the eligibility criteria to apply for the grant funding.”
Wyoming Regional EMS took over ambulance services in both Sheridan and Campbell Counties back in 2022.
