Honoring Those Who Died on 9-11

On Thursday, September 5, Sheridan Fire and Rescue Division Chief-Community Risk Reduction/ Fire Marshall George Neeson announced a special program to honor those who died in the 9-11 Terrorist Attacks in 2001.

This special program will honor those who lost their lives in the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the crash site in Shanksville, PA.

Sheridan Fire-Rescue invites all local Law Enforcement, Firefighters, Emergency Medical Technicians, and the public to attend the remembrance. This service will be held at the Sheridan Fire-Rescue Department, 151 South Scott Street.

A complete itinerary is as follows:

At 0755, the bay door opens and emergency personnel walk to the apparatus apron. Members turn right to face the flag. Maintain silence while outside.

At 0758 The Chief Officer willwalkto podium, face personnel and state the following: We have assembled in remembrance for those men and women who were victims of the tragedy on September 11, 2001; fire service, EMS, law enforcement, civilians and families of those who were lost from the World Trade Center, The Pentagon and Shanksville, PA. After the ringing of the bell please observe 1-minute of complete silence.

At 0759 the time of South Tower Collapse, the LaFrance bell will ring 5-5-5 (three sets of five chimes each) and at 0800 one minute of complete silence will be observed.

At 0801 there will be a release of doves, an invocation, and bagpipes will be played. The Chief Officer will thank those who attended, and urge them to “Never forget those who gave their lives to protect others.”

Attendees are encouraged to join them inside after the service and share the fellowship.

At 0808, the Captain will end the ceremony. All are welcome to attend.
