SCSO asks public to keep a heads up for kids as school begins
School Districts 1 and 3 have begun and District 2 will begin next week. This means school buses and students walking and riding bikes to school and home.
Although parents do their best to teach the littles to be careful and mind the traffic, kids will always be kids and the Sheridan County Sheriff is asking drivers to keep a heads up during their commutes, especially when near a school.
Thompson reminded listeners to be patient when following a school bus. The law states if drivers are on a two lane road, regardless of which direction they’re traveling, when the school bus activates its red flashing lights, drivers are required to stop. Drivers must stop before reaching the school bus and remain stopped until the red lights are turned off or the bus continues driving down the road.
Undersheriff Levi Dominguez reminded drivers in the county that some bus routes may have changed and to remain vigilant when traveling behind a bus in the county.
