Published

A forum was held Wednesday evening at the Bomber Mountain Civic Center, to present information and allow the public to ask questions about the proposed one-cent specific purpose tax to maintain, replace or upgrade municipal facilities.

The proposed 1% Specific Purpose Excise Tax proposal will be on the ballot for voters to decide in the special election on August 17th.

The projects include improvements at the fairgrounds, Jim Gatchell Museum, Buffalo Golf Course, Bomber Mountain Civic Center, Kaycee Library, Senior Center, YMCA, and building a recreation center in Buffalo.

Also part of the proposal is infrastructure in both Buffalo and Kaycee, and a maintenance savings account.

The amount of money asked for will be roughly $38 million, with $25 million going to projects and $13 million going to the maintenance account for future upkeep on the facilities.

After short presentations from representatives discussing the projects, they took questions about the proposal.

Tim Miner, Chief Executive Officer of the Johnson County Family YMCA, discussed the importance of this tax proposal to all of the entities involved.

There will be more public forums to discuss the issues before the election August 17th, and we will have those dates and locations when they are released.
