The holiday traveling season has one weekend to go, and that means many motorists will continue to be on the highways.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol, which is one of 12 states in the Western States Traffic Safety Coalition, says troopers are working to keep people and highways safe through thoughtful and professional traffic law enforcement activity with a targeted public safety focus.
During the past 5 years, there has been an average of 300 people that have died in impaired driving crashes, between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
The Coalition says some people feel New Year’s Eve is the ultimate party night, and that can be a time when motorists engage in risky driving behavior.
Driving tips to ensure motorists help keep everyone safe include don’t drive after consuming alcohol or any impairing substance, keep a safe distance between vehicles, yield the right of way instead of taking it, pay attention to road signs and weather conditions and be aware of erratic drivers.
