A pretrial conference was recently held in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan for a Louisiana man charged with multiple crimes. District Court Judge Ben Kirven said the trial for Michael Barabin that was scheduled to begin on July 29 will now take place either August 14 or August 26. According to court documents, the charges are the result of an incident on February 23, 2024, when a trooper with the Wyoming Highway Patrol was dispatched to a one vehicle crash involving Barabin on Interstate 90 in Sheridan County near mile marker 13.

Shortly after the trooper arrived on scene, Barabin was placed under arrest for allegedly forging or counterfeiting a certificate of title or certificate of registration, which is a felony in Wyoming. He was also charged with the following misdemeanors; driving under suspension or a revoked license, consumption and possession of alcohol in a vehicle, and failure to maintain liability coverage. If convicted on all four counts, Barabin faces up to three years of incarceration and fines of up to $6,700.
