Flood Watch Issued For Sheridan And Several MT Counties: June 23-25, 2023
Excessive rainfall from the next approaching weather system is possible and is raising flooding concerns.
The National Weather Service Office in Billings, Montana has issued a flood watch for Sheridan County in Wyoming, as well as all of south-central, southeast and east-central Montana.
The watch is in effect from 6am Friday (June 23rd) until 6am Sunday.
Rainfall totals of one-to-three inches are possible, although if the training effect happens, the total could be upwards of three-to-five inches.
The training effect is when a line or group of storms follow each other, and hit the same area(s) repeatedly.
This type of weather occurrence was a contributing factor in last year’s Yellowstone National Park flooding disaster.
The rainfall will combine with already saturated soils and may lead to flooding.
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.
Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are possible.
Residents are advised to monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flood warnings be issued.
