Tongue River HS Girls Basketball Team Repeat As 2A State Champs: The Tongue River Lady Eagles successfully defended their 2A State Championship beating Wyoming Indian 61-47 Saturday night.

The score was close for most of the game, but after the Lady Chiefs took a 45-43 lead with about 5:25 to go, TR would close out the game on an 18-2 run to pull away.

Sophomore Afton Cummins had a triple-double with 17 points, 15 rebounds, and 11 assists, junior Chaney Reish had a double-double  with 21 points, and 10 rebounds and senior McKinlee Scammon put in 13 points of her own.

Scammon says Wyoming Indian is almost always a worthy opponent and they gave TR what they wanted in a championship game.

The Lady Eagles finish the season with a record of 25-1.


Big Horn HS Girls and Boys Basketball: The Big Horn girls lost their first round game of the tournament on Thursday vs. Thermopolis, won on Friday in the consolation round vs. Big Piney, and then lost vs. Pine Bluffs in the consolation championship game on Saturday, to finish the season with a record of 16-13.

The BH boys lost their first round game on Thursday in overtime against Wyoming Indian and then lost on Friday in the consolation round against Wright, to finish their season with a record of 11-16.


Sheridan HS Basketball: Both Sheridan teams are heading to the upcoming 4A State Tournament which starts this coming Thursday in Casper.

The boys are the #1 seed out of the East after winning the Regional Tournament this past weekend in Cheyenne, defeating Thunder Basin in the championship game.

The Broncs will play in the last game of the opening round of the state tournament on Thursday at 8:30pm vs. Star Valley.

The Lady Broncs will in the first game of the opening round as the #3 seed out of the East.

Their Thursday game tips off at 9am vs. Natrona County.


Indoor Track and Field State Meet: For the second year in a row and for the 6th time in 7 years, the Sheridan boys are 4A State Champs.

Chance Morris won both the 55 meter and 200 meter dash races.

Ryder Charest was 1st in the 800 meter run and Garrett Otto crossed the line first in the 55 meter hurdles.

The Broncs’ 4 by 400 and 4 by 800 meter relay teams are state champs as well.

On the girls side, Lilly Charest won the pole vault, and the Lady Broncs’ 4 by 200 meter relay team came in 1st place, to help the team to a 4th place finish overall.

At the 3A State meet, Kaden Hill of Tongue River won the boys 55 meter hurdles race and Janiah Lovingood was 2nd in the girls shot put.

Sheridan Lady Hawks Amateur Hockey Team Repeat As State Champs: The Sheridan Lady Hawks have repeated as state champs.

In pool play, the team beat Cheyenne on Friday 5-1 and Jackson on Saturday morning 3-1, but lost to Pinedale Saturday afternoon 2-1 in a shootout.

Their pool play record was good enough to get them into yesterday’s championship game, where they won a rematch vs. Jackson 3-zip.

The Lady Hawks finish the season with a record of 22-2.


Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks lost both weekend games at Rapid City, but Friday’s loss was in overtime, which gave the team that 1 point in the standings, to secure the #2 seed for the playoffs.

The team will have home ice advantage when they take on Great Falls in the first round of the NA3HL Frontier Division playoffs.

Game 1 is this coming Thursday in Sheridan, beginning at 6:30pm.

Game 2 is Friday at Great Falls, starting at 7:05pm.

Game 3 if needed would be Sunday, back in Sheridan and the puck would drop at 1:05pm.

The other first round matchup is between Helena and Rapid City.

That series starts Wednesday in South Dakota.


University of Wyoming Basketball/Mountain West Conference Tournament: The Mountain West Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament starts this Wednesday in Las Vegas.

The Wyoming Cowboys are the #9 seed and will take on 8th-seeded San Jose State in the first round.

Tip off for that game is at 12-noon Mountain Time.

The winner of that game will advance to take on top seed New Mexico in the quarterfinals.

The Lobos have a first round bye.

The women’s tournament started yesterday.

Number 8 seed Boise State beat #9 Nevada, 54-48.

Number 7 Air Force won against #10 Utah State 66-59 and Number 6 Fresno State topped #11 San Jose State 67-62.

Today’s quarterfinal schedule goes like this…at 1pm it’s Boise State vs. top seed UNLV.

At 3:30pm it’s #4 San Diego State vs. #5 New Mexico.

The Wyoming Cowgirls, seeded #2, will take on Air Force at 6pm.

You can hear that game LIVE on Fox Sports 106.3 FM.

Then at 8:30pm it’s #3 Colorado State against Fresno State.


Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball Players Earn Weekly And Postseason Awards: Junior Malene Pedersen who hails from Denmark, was named the Mountain West Conference Player Of The Week.

In last week’s win vs. UNLV, she scored 27 points including 5 3’s.

Postseason accolades have also been awarded.

In what was no surprise, senior Allyson Fertig who played her high school ball in Douglas, was named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year.

She set a new career Conference record with 1,152 rebounds and she still has at least 1 more game to play.

This season she is averaging 11 rebounds and 18.9 points per game.

She also leads the conference in field goal percentage at a little better than 58% and is 2nd in blocks averaging 1.8 per game.

Fertig along with Pedersen were also named to the All Mountain West team.

Emily Mellema was named the Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

The senior, along with Fertig, were also named to the Conference’s all-defensive team.


Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets split weekend games, winning on Friday at home vs. Phoenix 149-141 in overtime, but lost yesterday at Oklahoma City 127-103.

The Nuggets play again today at Oklahoma City, starting at 6pm.


Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche won on Saturday at home vs. Toronto 7-4.

The Avs next play today at home vs. Chicago, beginning at 7pm.


Colorado Rockies Pre-Season Baseball: The Colorado Rockies went winless in their weekend games.

Friday’s contest at home vs. Texas was canceled due to weather issues.

On Saturday, the Rocks lost at home vs. the Athletics 8-1 and lost yesterday at Seattle by the same 8-1 score.

Today is a split squad day as half of the team will play at the LA Angels, while the other half are at home vs. San Francisco.

First pitch in both of those games are scheduled for 2:10pm.
