AARP Shred Event this Saturday

AARP Wyoming State President Stella Montano and Clearance Montano made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to announce an AARP Shred Event that will aid in keeping sensitive information safe.

According to Federal Trade Commission data, Americans lost some $10 billion to fraud in 2023. U.S. Mail, receipts, billing statements and tax information can pile up due to residents wishing to keep sensitive information from the trash bins. 

AARP Wyoming is set to host two events designed to help citizens protect their identity by shredding paperwork that may contain sensitive and personal information.

The first event will take place in Sheridan beginning at 8:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. Saturday May 11, at the Sheridan Commercial Company at 303 Broadway St., with on-site, secure paper shredding. The second event will begin at 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. at DJ’s Grocery Store at 895 Fort St., in Buffalo.

Clearance took the opportunity to remind the public that scammers and those intent on committing fraud can use information many of us feel may be unimportant.

The Montano’s are very involved with AARP and an arm of the organization called the AARP Fraud Watch Network works to inform the public of the level of fraud and scams taking place as well as arm people with techniques and practices to help keep them and their information safe.
