Small Amounts of Improperly Discarded Household Chemicals Can Pose Major Problems at Landfill
Sheridan Media reported the disposal of batteries into household waste poses the greatest risk at the landfill but Sheridan Recycling & Solid Waste Coordinator Seliena Parker said a close second is the disposal of common household chemicals.

All residents of Sheridan County are eligible to contact the landfill and by appointment utilize the Household Hazardous Waste Facility, free of charge. Appointments are required and are currently available on Wednesdays only. These appointments allow staff to prepare the correct storage for the type and amount of household chemicals accepted by the facility.
When calling for an appointment, Parker asks residents to please have a count of chemicals sorted into the following categories:
– Cans of Paint
– Cans of Spray Paint
– Bottles / Containers of Household Chemicals (i.e.: cleaners)
– Bottles / Containers of Garage Chemicals (i.e.: oil, grease, antifreeze, etc.)
– Bottles / Bags of Yard Chemicals (i.e.: herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, etc.)
To schedule an appointment for hazardous waste drop off call (307) 674-8461. The facility is located at the City Landfill located at 83 East Ridge Road.
The cost is free to all Sheridan County residents. Businesses (including non-profit and government businesses) are required to pay a fee.
