Ron RichterA trial date has been set for a 20-year-old man charged with two felonies. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
At an arraignment hearing Thursday in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan, Kayden Roberts pleaded not guilty by reason of mental impairment or deficiency to the charges of sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree, and sexual abuse of a minor in the third degree. According to information from Thursday’s hearing, the alleged crimes occurred between May 21-22 of 2022 in Sheridan County.
District Court Judge Darci Phillips set a #5 stack four-day jury trial to begin on March 4 and scheduled a pretrial conference for February 8 at 10 am. The #5 stack trial means that there are four other jury trials scheduled for that same date. If convicted on both counts, Roberts faces up to 35 years in prison and fines of up to $20,000.

An arraignment hearing was held for 36-year-old Joshua Ray of Sheridan. On August 6 of this year, Ray was arrested by the Sheridan Police Department and charged with two counts of endangering children for storing methamphetamine in a residence with a child present and one count of possession of a controlled substance – psilocybin.
Ray pleaded not guilty to all three of the charges at Thursday’s hearing. Judge Phillips scheduled a three-day jury trial to begin on March 4. A pretrial conference will take place on February 8 at 10:30 am. Endangering children is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000. Misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance punishable by up to one-year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
