Ron RichterA hearing was held Wednesday in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan for a man charged with sexual assault. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
The hearing was held to address the State’s Notice of Intent to introduce evidence in the second degree sexual assault case against Jacob Meyer. A four-day jury trial is scheduled to begin Monday, December 9 in District Court. At the hearing Wednesday, Sheridan County and Prosecuting Attorney Dianna Bennett said the evidence pertains to electronic communications, both email and text messages, between Meyer and the victim. Meyer’s Attorney, Jeremy Kisling did not object to the electronic communications being introduced as evidence in the case.
Meyer was arrested by the Sheridan Police Department on May 6, 2024 for second degree sexual assault. Meyer, at the time, was the Virtual Learning Assistant Principal at Sheridan High School. According to court documents, on May 4, SHS Principal Scott Cleland contacted the Sheridan Police Department to report an alleged sexual relationship between Meyer and a student. The affidavit of probable cause states that a student had reported the relationship to Principal Cleland. The alleged sexual assault occurred at Meyer’s residence on April 19, 2024, when Meyer provided the victim with alcohol prior to committing the alleged crime. Meyer and the victim had been in a text based relationship since November of 2023. The crime of second degree sexual assault is punishable by not less than two years and not more than 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
