CHAPS Equine Assisted Services celebrates 20 years of service to the Sheridan community, Executive Director Kristen Marcus said it’s busier than ever before.
During an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Marcus said for the first time in its 20-year history, some programs offered by CHAPS have a double-digit waiting list.
Marcus acknowledges the popularity of the programs is a “blessing” but she and her team are working to get services to those that have been added to the lists.

But not all programs are filled to capacity and Marcus encourages people to call for more information.
CHAPS offers a non-mounted, group program focusing on facilitating personal skill development that helps attend to and reduces emotional reactivity, assists in processing trauma and fosters the development of strength-based tools to work through triggers and emotions. This program is facilitated by the horse while guided by the Equine Specialist and Mental Health Professional. One of these programs, Horses & Heroes, offers unique and effective therapy to veterans, which has room for more participants.

CHAPS also offers multiple groups per week including Alphabet Soup, a group for law enforcement, EMS & frontline medical professionals.
