Morning Sports: April 27, 2026
The weather tried to mess around with various sporting events this past weekend in Sheridan and Johnson County, and succeeded with a few things.
Sheridan HS Softball: The Sheridan High School softball team had to postpone this past Friday’s home double-header vs. Campbell County.
A makeup day has not yet been announced.
The Lady Broncs are scheduled to play a double-header tomorrow at Cody.
This weekend they will be in Gillette to take on Cheyenne East and Torrington on Friday and then Cheyenne Central and Wheatland on Saturday.

Sheridan/Johnson HS Soccer: The Sheridan boys made the road trip to Laramie and Cheyenne South and got a pair of wins.
The girls lost at home vs. Laramie and won against South.
Both teams are scheduled to take on Cheyenne Central on Friday and Cheyenne East on Saturday.
The boys play at home and the girls are on the road.
Buffalo’s big double-header at home vs. Cody scheduled for this past Friday will be played today instead, because of weather and road conditions over the Powder River Pass.

Sheridan/Johnson County HS Track and Field: Sheridan hosted the Dan Hansen Memorial Meet on Saturday against 6 other teams.
This week, the Broncs are scheduled to compete at Gillette on Thursday, while Buffalo is hosting a meet on that day as well.
Big Horn, Tongue River, and Arvada-Clearmont are scheduled to participate in that one.
Kaycee’s meet scheduled for this past Friday was postponed.
The team is next scheduled to compete on Saturday at Lusk.
Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Troopers ended up going 2-1 in games played at home this past weekend.
The team won on Saturday vs. Casper, then lost vs. Helena, Montana.
Yesterday, the team won the rematch vs. Helena, but the game against the Oilers was rained out.
Sheridan is next scheduled to play a home double-header on Saturday and a single game on Sunday vs. Rapid City Post 22.
University of Wyoming Spring Football: The University of Wyoming Cowboys played their spring game this past Saturday.
The defense was given a 21-nothing lead to start the game, and the offense was able to overcome it and win 37-21.
Quarterback Tyler Hughes was 13 of 20 passing for 131 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Campbell County High School grad Mason Drube was 11 of 16 for 112 yards and 1 score.
Running back Dontae Burch ran in one touchdown, and so did Nico Hamilton.
Erik Sandvik kicked one field goal.
The first game of the 2026 season is scheduled for Saturday, September 5th, with the Border War at Colorado State.
The home opener is set for September 12th vs. Northern Colorado.
Denver Broncos Football/NFL Draft: The Denver Broncos ended up selecting 7 players in this past weekend’s NFL Draft, but through some earlier trades, the team had to wait until Round 3 for their first pick.
Denver selected defensive tackle Tyler Onyedim out of Texas A&M.
In round 4, they grabbed Jonah Coleman, a running back from the University of Washington, and offensive lineman Kage Casey from Boise State.
In Round 5, tight end Justin Joly from North Carolina State got the call.
In Round 7, the Broncos had 3 selections.
Those players were safety Miles Scott from Illinois, tight end Dallen Bentley of Utah, and with the final pick of the draft, Denver had the honor of selecting Mr. Irrelevant, Red Murdock, who is a linebacker from the University of Buffalo.
No one from the University of Wyoming was selected.
A total of 3 players from Mountain West Conference teams had their names called.
As mentioned, Kage Casey of Boise State was selected by Denver.
Chris Johnson of San Diego State was selected in the first round by the Miami Dolphins and Keyshawn James-Newby from New Mexico was selected in the final round by Philadelphia.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies won all 3 games this past weekend in New York against the Mets.
Friday’s score was 4-3.
Saturday’s game was rained out, so the teams played 2 games yesterday.
Final scores were 3-1 and 3-zip.
In the second game, Hunter Goodman hit a 2-run home run and starting pitcher Chase Dollander went 7 innings, allowing 5 hits and striking out 7.
Today is an off day on the schedule and tomorrow, the Rocks begin a 3-game series at Cincinnati.
Denver Nuggets Basketball/NBA Playoffs: The Denver Nuggets now have their backs up against the wall after losing Game 4 of their first round best of 7 series at Minnesota back on Saturday 112-96.
The Nuggets trail 3-games-to-1, and Game 5 is scheduled for today at Denver.
Tip off is scheduled for 8:30pm.
Denver needs to win to force Game 6, which would be on Thursday at Minnesota, and win that game to force a Game 7, which would be on Saturday in Denver.
The Timberwolves just need to win any one of those 3 games to advance, whereas the Nuggets must win all 3.
Colorado Avalanche Hockey/NHL Playoffs: The Colorado Avalanche advanced to the second round, with a 5-1 win at Los Angeles to sweep the first round matchup against the Kings.
The Avs are now waiting to see which team will be their second opponent.
It will either be Minnesota or Dallas and that series is currently tied at 2.
Game 5 of that best of 7 series is scheduled for tomorrow at Dallas.
