City Adopts Special Events Policy
A special events policy was approved unanimously by the Sheridan City Council at their business meeting Monday night. City Clerk Ashlee Foster said the policy primarily formalizes existing City practices while providing additional clarity regarding permit requirements, application standards, event classifications, review criteria, and applicant responsibilities. Foster added that the policy also addresses several operational areas that have historically lacked clear guidance, including race and walk events, alcohol-related activities, public notifications, and minimum application requirements. Foster talks about the public outreach that was done prior to the policy coming before the Council.
Foster addressed the public comments they received prior to the July 2 deadline for public comment.
Foster said the effective date of the Special Events Policy has been revised from July 6, 2026, to September 1, 2026, to allow sufficient time for revision and finalization of permit forms, development of internal procedures, staff training, public communication, and applicant education. Applications submitted prior to September 1, 2026, will continue to be processed under the City’s current procedures. Applications submitted on or after September 1, 2026, will be administered in accordance with the adopted Special Events Policy.
