Public Health Discusses COVID Vaccine Side Effects
During this week’s COVID-19 Emergency Operations Center Briefing, Johnson County Public Health Nursing Manager Trish Thompson talked about the possible side effects that are being reported from the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.
Pain, soreness, and swelling at the site of injection are common and swollen lymph nodes in the injection area can occur as well, she said.
Also, some getting the vaccine have been surprised with other side effects, which are a good sign, according to Thompson.
Thompson said they have seen where someone was vaccinated and then tested positive for the virus, but the public should remember the exposure could have happened from 2 to 14 days prior to getting the vaccine.
She also said those getting the vaccine should limit or reduce the use of pain relievers like Tylenol, Aleve or Ibuprofen as they can limit the immune response to the vaccine.
